The Great Escapes

[run_barry]

Since Yamato offered to come to Central City and help with the epidemic crisis, things have been crazy, but handling them has been a whole lot easier now that Barry isn't operating alone.

He even got some rest in, on Yamato's orders, and they've got a bit of down time as far as emergencies in the city go so they're using it to work on other problems.

While Yamato recalibrates the S.T.A.R. Labs satellite to track the new meta they suspect is behind a whole bunch of the crime, and a death-trap or two set for Barry, Barry is getting his science nerd-amateur virologist on, trying to find a cure to the bug that has so much of the City down; including his team.

Sitting at a desk in the Cortex, Barry works away with a microscope taking notes on a tablet. Beside him are several boxes of chicken nuggets which he's working through, with a few empty ones already in the waste bin nearby.

In the middle of the space on the floor GP the porg is munching on shrimp treats while bopping around an inflatable S.T.A.R. Labs beach ball.

"I'm not suiting up. Or wearing a mask. Or letting Cisco name me anything, ever," Yamato grumbles. "Just because I'm going out on the ground with you that does not make me a superhero."

[run_barry]

"Mmmmm... it kind of does," Barry argues, smirking with glee now.

"You could be like... The Incredible Yams. Or... Yam-Man. Sailor Yams."

[angry_friendship_wolf]

"Die in a fire," Yamato growls, standing up and giving Barry a light shove to the chest. "You know, I'm starting to see why you're not allowed to name any of your villains."

[run_barry]

Barry rocks back a step, laughing before turning mock indignant.

"Hey, I lost those privileges because of you and 'Turns-Into-Gas-Guy'," he replies. "In fact, I think that means you owe me letting me name you. How about Digi-Dude?"

"'Turns-Into-Gas-Guy' was a great name," Yamato says, just a touch petulantly. "You're not naming me. I'd rather let Cisco name me, that's how bad you are, and I'm not letting him name me either. Nobody's giving me a superhero name."

[run_barry]

"Okay fine," he relents.

A beat, and then he adds, "Can't stop me from calling you one, though."

"Don't even think about it," Yamato growls, giving Barry another shove. "Especially not if it's something stupid like Digi-Dude or Sailor Yams."

[run_barry]

Just as that shove starts to press into his chest Barry backs up, zipping away.

Suddenly standing at the other console instead of in front of Yamato, Barry gestures at Yamato.

"It'll be something great, I promise. In the meantime we should at least get you a vest or something."

There's the tiniest chuckle at Barry zipping away, because that's -- that's frustrating, but admittedly also cool.

"I hate you. You're the worst person in the entire world," Yamato grumbles, without much actual rancour. "The guy in Milliways who made my wrist computer also gave me an armoured jacket, I can use that."

It's fairly light armour, but it's also fairly light armour from a hyper-advanced alien civilisation, made via what may as well be magic as far as Yamato can tell. Yamato's not sure how well it will hold up to a sustained assault, but at least he can move around in it fairly easily.

"You know I'm your favorite," Barry grins, rocking on his heels.

The jacket gets a nod of approval from Barry.

"That's cool. Just so you have something. Facing bad guys plain clothes seems kind of crazy to me." And this plan is already crazy enough as it is.

"You're my least favourite speedster."

Barry is, admittedly, the only speedster he knows.

Wryly: "Good thing I have it, then, I wouldn't want you to decide I needed to wear some brightly coloured supersuit for protection."

[run_barry]

"Aww, that hurts," he replies, laying a hand on his chest.

"And for the record, I happen to look great in red."

"Good."

He shakes his head, dropping back into his chair and taking another sip of his coffee, looking over the blueprints of the factory.

"You might, doesn't mean I want to become the second member of the Skittles Sentai Flashrangers."

[run_barry]

"That is so not what are team is going to be called," he declares.

After Yamato sits Barry crosses the room in another blink, this time ending up in a rolling chair which glides across the floor and comes to a stop up against a desk, Barry sitting in it opening up another meal bar.

"What if I told you you were already a suit wearing superhero out there in the multiverse?" he asks, not managing to suppress a grin at all.

"I'd tell you that it's so tragic when dementia starts setting in, Gramps," Yamato replies, without looking up from his work. "Seriously, I'd be the worst superhero. And I'm not in any rush to put on a spandex suit and fight crime and the forces of evil."

[run_barry]

Barry tosses his head back and laughs.

"No, for real, man," he says, grinning at Yamato. "You were like this, corporate sponsored superhero with these crazy powers. And a really, really tight suit."

Seriously, Barry has no idea how the other Yamato did any crime fighting in that thing.

"You were far from the worst, but... you also didn't seem too happy with the gig, either."

"I can't tell if this is an elaborate joke or if you're actually serious," Yamato mutters, arching an eyebrow. "Because that actually sounds like the worst thing ever."

[run_barry]

"Totally serious. You were like, forced smiling and talking about autograph sessions. What was your name...?" Barry looks up at the ceiling, trying to remember.

"It was something random... Oh! Indigo Fang, with some kind of hero agency. White Lion? Or Tiger? Something like that. And hey, Coca Cola was sponsoring you, so I guess you weren't doing too bad."

Yamato just slowly sinks his face into his hands.

"If I ever meet that version of me, I'm going to punch him in the face, just so you know," he grumbles. "He sounds like an asshole."

[run_barry]

Barry laughs again, clapping his hands together.

"No, he was cool. Super angry, definitely got the feeling off of him that he wanted to punch just about everyone, but he seemed okay."

Barry did feel a little bad for the guy, considering how unhappy he seemed, and still has feeling over the whole hero business thing.

"The real point is, if you've got a doppelganger on another world who's a superhero, it's not that far of a stretch to see you in a suit and mask, right?"

"I'm still not wearing a supersuit and a mask," Yamato replies. "Never going to happen. I don't care if every alternate version of me in the entire multiverse is wearing one, I'm not going to."

[run_barry]

"Whatever you say, Indigo," Barry replies, giving Yamato a thumbs up.

[angry_friendship_wolf]

"Don't you dare," Yamato says, looking up and jabbing a finger at Barry. "Don't even think about giving me the damn Coca-Cola Hero's name. That's just as bad as Digi-Dude or Sailor Yams."

[run_barry]

"Glad you said that, because I wasn't sold on the name, either." He'll have to just keep thinking it over, that's all.

Maybe it'll come to him while they're in action. Speaking of which...

Looking at his arm, Barry examines the wound with his fingers and nods.

"Think I'm ready to get these stitches out. Then I guess we go."

"You really do heal fast," Yamato mutters, shaking his head. He whistles a few bars of a song, and the surgical kit materialises in his hands. "Okay, let's get them out, then."
